This week we were graphing.We were graphing on comuter during math time. We made a table so we don’t have to remember them in our brain.We also were printing them out. We were doing so well.

Silly Putty

This Friday was a really yucky Friday because we made silly putty.We put water in glue and stirred it up. Next we add food coloring to make it colorful and fun. Last we poured in borax and water. When we stirred it together it became a solid-y, liquid-y, gooey, kinda sticky blob of fun. Pictures soon to come!

Ooooooooobleck!

Dear Families,

We made a HUGE mess today. Guess how we did it – by making oobleck. Here’s what we did.

We put 2 parts cornstarch and 1 part water together. It felt soft. We realized that if you squeeze the oobleck it makes it a solid but when you left go of the oobleck it is like a liquid. We stuck our hands in the bowl and squished it. It was white, kind of gooey but it was hard at the same time. We think it is a mixture of solid and a liquid. Try it! It is fun!

Making Blueberry Muffins

Dear Families,

Today we learned about how to make blueberry muffins. We read a recipe. We put a mix in a bowl and added an egg and some milk. We had to stir it together to make a batter. Next, we poured the batter into the muffin tins. We put the muffin tins into the oven to bake. The temperature causes the liquid to change into a solid – a very yummy solid!

We had fun learning about (and eating) solids, liquids, and gases.

We are all lined up and ready to go! I am so excited about a brand new year of learning. Please, browse through some of our older posts to see how we ended last year. It’ll give you some things to look forward to! I am thrilled to be your teacher this year and I look forward to getting to know each of you.

Going to New Hope Creek

Have you ever been to New Hope Creek? Well we have!

First we met Mrs. Derrick at Hanging Rock. She told us the story about what New Hope Creek used to be. It was a farm and the Native Americans used hanging rock as a meeting place. (Cool!) When you go out on hanging rock the water is below you. We each got to pick one mussel shell from the creek bank.

Next Mrs. Flowers showed us flowers that you can eat. They were shaped like 3 hearts hanging on a stem. They were delicious and tasted like lemon.

Afterwards we to a station called “What’s been here” Guess what we found?

bird’s nest
hornet’s nest
raccoon tail
red fox tail

Last but not least, Mr. Palmiter showed us different animals he found in the forest. He had a worm snake, a baby turtle, a marbled salamander.

We had an exciting adventurous day. We hope you go to New Hope Creek too, because it is fun and we learned a lot!

Goodbye Butterflies!

Dear Butterflies,

I hope you are safe. We hope you have a nice life. We found your eggs in our classroom. Soon, the eggs will hatch into caterpillars. The caterpillars will eat and eat and as they get bigger they molt. Molt means that they take their skin off so they can grow. If they don’t take their skin(exoskeleton) off, they won’t grow. Next they will make a J-shape and then turn into a chrysalis. While they are in the chrysalis they are transforming into a beautiful butterfly – just like you!

Ackland Art Museum

Today to secent grade classes went on a field trip to the ackland art museum one of the classes was our class.We saw pichers that was made out of chrash that was allsome. after we saw the pichers we made our own out of junk it was apsalootly beautfull. we went to the next exsibit and saw this thing that you can stand on. it was littel pepole holding glass. it was cool glass well I thoght it was cool.

ON wensday are class went to auther classes and they we’r difrent contrees and lernd about gyodamalla. And jupan mexco and maroco about puerto rico and we made stuff from the auther contrees like gods eye spiner origami

We celebrated the amazing diversity of our school through a multicultural celebration. As a second grade, we went to each class, learning from all of our amazing teachers. We loved it! On Friday night, the whole school came together for a delicious pot luck dinner with fabulous dances and musical presentations. What a wonderful evening!
